Batís Campillo

2001, in New York again, my mind was opened up; I knew that I had to let myself be carried along and ignore my fears. After all, the medium was mine; I could do whatever I wanted. Then I released what was within me. My painting became more intimist, I wanted to paint my dreams, my imagined worlds.

I began the series of worlds; each world is a situation I put into this world and its surroundings everything that concerns me, another dimension, communication, places chosen by the spirit in order to obtain peace and be able to convey what I long for, balance, peace, serenity. I began to fly regularly and participate in flying tours and this influenced my painting. From the air there is sufficient perspective in order to do without the superfluous. You only keep the essential, everything is harmony, you do not see any waste or defects, only beauty, perfect chromatic ranges, the way man's work merge with nature and everything finally fits in.

In relation to flying, i also liked the feeling of freedom, the impression that you are away from everyday life for a while. I like flying above the clouds; this reminds me of my Campos de IALU, which are paintings inspired by interpretation of Egyptian stories - their attractive and, at the same time, inaccesible paradises have, like clouds, fissures through which you can enter, although you are not sure if you can. These paintings are round like the dot, infinity, and depending on how far or close you see this paradise, they are warmer or more hermetic or iron-like. I have been thinking about working on this theme for quite a while when, in 2001, I painted three works.

In 2002 I continued with my Campos de IALU, in addition to other paintings related to this theme, but in different formats: vertical ones like Documento milenario and horizontal ones like Movimiento universal. In 2003 i went into this theme in even greater depth and even now I feel that I still have a lot to explore in these Campos de IALU. There are many kinds of paradise; when you manage to get close in your painting to the idea you have about something, that is a small paradise. Since 2004 I have been working on larger Campos de IALU.
